Facebook Accused Of Silencing Conservative News

Video Transcript:

According to Gizmodo, former Facebook workers said they suppressed conservative news from news feeds.

BILL HEMMER: “Workers prevented stories about the right-wing CPAC gathering, Mitt Romney, Rand Paul, and other conservative topics from appearing in the highly-influential section, even though they were organically trending among the site’s users.”

TUCKER CARLSON: So if you control what news people are getting, you control the attitudes the develop about the news. So it’s hugely significant.

Facebook has of course refuted the claim, arguing they take the allegations seriously.

HEMMER: “We take allegations of bias very seriously… There are rigorous guidelines in place for the review team to ensure consistency and neutrality. These guidelines do not permit the suppression of political perspectives.”

CARLSON: I don’t doubt that the guidelines specify a certain code of behavior any more than the Constitution of every country in the world guarantees human rights but very few of them actually provide it. The guidelines and the practice are two entirely different things.

The RNC has also weighed in arguing the practice is deplorable.

ADAM HOURLY: “It is beyond disturbing to learn that this power is being used to silence view points and stories that don’t fit someone else’s agenda. Censorship in any form should give Americans who value their fundamental freedoms great pause.”
